Pacific Birds is hiring a Conservation Coordinator for Coastal Habitats in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. The Coordinator will focus on coastal wetlands planning, partnership building, and the facilitation of project implementation. This position will work closely with the Pacific Birds U.S. Coordinator and other conservation and communications staff and partners.
The Conservation Coordinator will lead, catalyze, coordinate, and support long-term coastal conservation efforts within the Pacific Birds region in NW California, coastal Oregon and Washington, and Alaska in support of the Coastal Wetlands conservation priority.
The Conservation Coordinator will focus on the following areas to advance coastal habitat conservation:
- Partnerships: Build, coordinate, and support strong bird habitat conservation partnerships within coastal habitats in the Pacific Birds region by nurturing existing parterships and cultivating new partnerships – including with non-traditional partners.
- Implementation: Advance and support partners in the delivery of on-the-ground actions including habitat management, acquisition, and restoration of coastal habitats.
- Transfer of Information: Interpret, synthesize, and share scientific and technical information relevant to the delivery of conservation including but not limited to natural resources, ecology, climate, traditional knowledge, and social science.
- Resilience: Identify and promote conservation actions that preserve and expand options for ecological, social, and economic adaptation to the impacts of climate change.
- Policy: Collaborate to address policy barriers that limit conservation efforts.
- Funding and Incentives: Identify, cultivate, and promote conservation measures, funding sources, and programs that incentivize habitat conservation. Connect partners with funding opportunities to increase local capacity and on-the-ground conservation work.
- Communication, Outreach, and Impact: Collaborate with communications staff to implement communications strategies identified and/ or developed by Pacific Birds and other partner planning efforts to affect desired change. Track progress towards objectives and share relevant information with partners.
We are looking for an individual who is self-motivated, can work well collaboratively, and who understands relevant funding programs and policies. The position requires excellent communications skills and experience planning, implementing, or networking in the conservation field. Knowledge of ecosystem and bird conservation issues in coastal and estuarine regions of the U.S. Pacific Northwest and Alaska is important. The Conservation Coordinator can work either as a contractor or an employee of Ducks Unlimited, Inc., Pacific Birds’ primary fiscal agent.
