PSG 2024 – Important announcements and reminders!
PSG 2024 is just a few weeks away! Please take a moment to read through these important announcements and reminders so that you are prepared for the Annual Meeting!
Hotel Availability: Unfortunately, the hotel block at the Grand Hyatt Seattle is full and PSG is not able to add any more rooms to our block. However, rooms are still available at nearby hotels; click here for information about other hotels.
Field Trips: The deadline to sign-up for our field trips is Wednesday, January 31st! For more information about the field trips, click here. Questions? Contact locochair@pacificseabirdgroup.org.
Student Research Grants: The PSG Student Research Grant was created in 2019 by the PSG Former Chairs to honor and support the numerous contributions of the PSG student membership. This grant seeks to aid student-led research in the promotion of up-and-coming scholar members of Pacific Seabird Group. This year, the PSG Student Research Grant will fund five grants for $2,000 each, with one grant per degree-level (bachelor, master, doctoral) and two additional grants based on review scores. Funds are raised by the PSG Former Chairs and matched by the PSG Executive Committee (EXCO). Past grant awards were between $500 and $1000. Applications for this year’s Student Research Grant are due February 4th—less than a week away! Click here for more information and to apply.
Annual Meeting Merchandise and Banquet: We have some awesome merchandise available with this year’s beautiful Annual Meeting logo. Place your orders through our Online Store by February 10th to ensure that your merchandise will be available! Also, be sure to buy your Banquet tickets! The Banquet will feature a live band, so please join us for dancing, desserts, and drinks to finish the conference and celebrate with the awardees (as a note, dinner is not included).
Silent AUKtion: For the past decade, the Silent AUKtion has been held at each Annual Meeting to raise funds for Student Travel Awards. The Silent AUKtion will run in-person at the Annual Meeting from February 21-23, 2024 and our goal is to raise at least $2,500. Money raised will go towards Student Travel Awards for future meetings. Popular AUKtion items that you can donate include seabird or marine-themed artwork, photographs, crafts, books and field guides, clothing, field gear, and any interesting seabird or marine-themed memorabilia. Don’t let this list limit you! We’re open to creative, new ideas for AUKtion items and experiences! The Silent AUKtion is in-person this year, so we are asking that those making donations please fill out this form. You can ship your donation to the Silent AUKtion ahead of the Annual Meeting or you can bring your donation with you. For more information, click here.
Mentor/Mentee Match-Up: Every year at the Pacific Seabird Group Annual Meeting, we host a student and early career scientist mentoring session. This year, we’re hosting a two-part mentoring session on February 21st at 6:30 pm PST (immediately after the Early Career Scientist Panel). The first part of this year’s event will match mentors to mentees based on research interests and career goals. The second part of the event will be a more casual Happy Hour with food, drinks, and different tables for folks interested in chatting about different topics! If you are interested in attending this event as a mentor or a mentee, we ask that you fill out this form no later than February 14th, 2024 so we can match mentors to mentees!
