Job Description: Caring for the baby birds in your assigned nursery areas each day and ensuring that they are weighed, fed, watered and cleaned and that the pens and habitats are clean, safe and tidy. Providing treatment and medication if required. Logging all observations and changes in the patient files.
BirdCare Aotearoa wild bird hospital (BCA) is a registered charitable trust dedicated to providing professional care and rehabilitation for sick, injured and orphaned wild birds in the greater Auckland area. Based at a large site in Green Bay, BirdCare operates a Department of Conservation approved avian hospital and rehabilitation facilities, handling around 6,000 birds per year. The centre is run by a small team of staff assisted by a larger team of volunteers.
Qualifications: The ideal candidates will have bird handling experience, be self-motivated, able to work under pressure, and unsupervised. They will be respectful, kind, and compassionate towards the birds in care and the other people at the centre.
The Nursery Assistant must be a quick learner, with confidence in handling tiny nestling birds, and able to work from 7am until 7pm on rostered shifts, mainly working alone and unsupervised.
Wage: N/A. The position of Nursery Assistant will be fixed-term until 5 April 2024.
