Paid Manager: Avian Hospital Manager at BirdCare Aotearoa (NZ)

BirdCare Aotearoa wild bird hospital (BCA) is seeking an avian hospital manager to assess and triage birds brought to the centre, undertake or direct their treatment, and pre-release checks for birds. Job Description: Assessing and triaging birds brought to the centre, undertaking or directing their treatment, and pre-release checks for birds. Rostering, training and supervising team members and volunteers, and liaising with other Hospital Managers to ensure the efficient and effective seven-day operation of the wild bird hospital. Other duties include answering phone queries, and covering other roles, including cleaning habitats, and admission of birds at reception, depending on availability of other team members.

BirdCare Aotearoa wild bird hospital (BCA) is a registered charitable trust dedicated to providing professional care and rehabilitation for sick, injured and orphaned wild birds in the greater Auckland area. Based at a large site in Green Bay, BirdCare operates a Department of Conservation approved avian hospital and rehabilitation facilities, handling around 6,000 birds per year. The centre is run by a small team of staff assisted by a larger team of volunteers.

Qualifications: The ideal Hospital Manager candidate will be an experienced wildlife rehabilitator, with sound knowledge of bird physiology, potentially veterinary trained to some level, be willing to upskill in effective rehabilitation practice, be an empathetic but decisive manager, enjoy supervising and training team members of varying skill levels and able to work well under pressure.

Wage: N/A. The position of Hospital Manager will be fixed-term for 1 year (timeframe negotiable), with the potential for becoming permanent.
