Deadline extension for LAA and SAA nominations through July 7
Upon the advisement of ExCo, the Awards Committee is extending the deadline for Lifetime and Special Achievement Awards to July 7th.
We have received several strong nominations for well-deserving individuals, but only one of the eight individuals (and members of teams) nominated is a woman. Over the history of PSG, only 11 of the total 54 LAA and SAA recipients (20%) have been women. We don’t expect to correct this imbalance with one year’s awards, but it is important to ExCo that the amazing and accomplished women at PSG at least be considered. We encourage members to submit nominations for women with exemplary accomplishments in seabird science, as well as PSG members belonging to other underrepresented groups. Resubmittals of prior nominations are encouraged!
Lifetime Achievement nominees should have had far-reaching, high impact work in seabird science. Special Achievement Award nominees should have also made important accomplishments in science or work which supports and promotes our PSG community.
Please keep in mind that all materials must be received by midnight Pacific time July 7th and MUST include the following to be considered:
- Nominator’s contact information
- Name and affiliation of both nominator and nominee
- Thoughtful written description of why nominee is deserving of PSG recognition including accomplishments important to seabird science, and to the PSG community
- Explicit written expression of nominator’s commitment to writing up an awards essay for the 2023 Annual Program and Pacific Seabirds
- Letters showing diverse support for a nominee are considered (and recommended)

Thank you!
