Job Opening: Seasonal Field Technician (Alaska)
The Cormorant Oceanography Project at Oregon State University is hiring one seasonal field technician, 6/22/20 to 8/17/20, to assist with an ongoing interdisciplinary study of cormorant behavior. Deadline to apply: 6/7/2020.
This work is being conducted in collaboration with the Seabird Oceanography Lab in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife Led by Rachael Orben.
The technician will assist with the capture, handling, tagging, and monitoring of pelagic cormorants at a colony on Middleton Islands, AK. The field crew will be in a remote field camp on the island. The crew will sleep in separate tents and cook communal meals in a primitive outbuilding at the field site. The field schedule is variable including long days, very early mornings, and night work, with limited time off. Work occurs in all weather conditions which regularly include strong winds, rain, fog and cold temperatures. The successful applicant should be able to carry loads upwards of 50 lbs. Work will occur solo or in pairs, and strict social distancing guidelines will be observed for a two-week period after arriving on the island. Applicant must be able to isolate for two weeks prior to travel.
