Paid Field/Research Assistant: Faculty Research Assistant – Caspian Tern Census (OR)

Job Description: The Faculty Research Assistant will lead the census of Caspian Terns in the Pacific Flyway during the 2024 nesting period. This position will perform a variety of duties, including communication with collaborators, data collection via aerial survey photography, colony counts from photos, data analysis of count data, and produce a summary report for publication. The incumbent will oversee one project involving wildlife research and monitoring. This position will require travel to Alaska, Washington, and California. They will be responsible for proper dissemination of results specifically producing a draft report for the funding agency. The position will be expected to coordinate with other faculty research assistants, undergraduate research assistants, and interns for colony counts. This is a 6-month fixed-term position.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, ecology, biology, wildlife sciences or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct field research independently, safely, and proficiently.
  • Technical photography experience.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to working professionally and inclusively with people from all backgrounds.
  • This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

Wage: $4,166 – 4,295 monthly salary (6-month position)
