Paid Crew Lead: Field Biology Technician (HI)

Maui Nui Seabird Recovery Project is looking for a dedicated and experienced field biologist to support our work protecting and conserving the seabirds of Maui Nui and their breeding habitats. Job Description: We are looking for a dedicated and experienced field biologist to support our work protecting and conserving the seabirds of Maui Nui and their breeding habitats. Our work takes us to diverse locations; from the high elevation slopes of Haleakalā to seashore dunes, and from remote montane forest to rocky offshore islets.

The primary duties of the lead field technician involve overseeing the field crew. This includes training, scheduling, and managing equipment and supplies. The lead field tech is also the team safety manager.

Field work consists of seabird burrow monitoring, small mammalian predator trapping and removal, fence maintenance, and habitat restoration. The lead field technician is also responsible for sound data collection and timely reporting on field activities.

MNSRP staff are expected to represent the organization and speak about the mission of seabird conservation to the community through outreach, volunteer events, and school presentations.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate possesses strong team leadership qualities, and is familiar with field work and conservation in Hawaiʻi, including identification of indigenous species and removal of introduced predators. Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years field experience required. We work together as a small and close-knit team. Successful candidates will possess dedication, compassion, and a positive outlook!
