Job Opening: Marine Ecologist Position (CA)
Farallon Institute is looking to fill a full time position for seabird population studies and analysis of marine predator food habits (seabirds, marine mammals, predatory fishes, etc.).
Primary responsibilities:
- Field work collecting observational data on Alcatraz Island seabird colonies
- Lab work analyzing predator diet
- Supervision of interns for both field and lab work
- Data and database management
- Statistical analysis of results
- Report and manuscript preparation
Work often conducted in windy/cold conditions. Some weekend and occasional evening work required. Position based in Petaluma with field work in San Francisco.
Compensation: salary + benefits TBD depending on experience. Travel mileage to field site is reimbursed. Vacation can be taken only during non-field season.
Required qualifications: Bachelors of Science; seabird colony monitoring experience (population, productivity, phenology, etc.), attention to detail, high level of independence, basic statistics, database skills, dissecting scope experience, report writing proficiency, good organizational and communication skills, patience, positive attitude
Preferred qualifications: Advanced degree (M.Sc.); experience in marine predator dietary analysis (fish/cephalopod and otolith/hard part ID, photographic/measuring software, etc.), advanced statistical proficiency (e.g. R, Python), advanced database manipulation skills (ACCESS, MySQL), project managing/supervisory experience, manuscript writing skills, fundraising ability
