Job Opening: Avian Ecologist (AK)
ABR has an immediate opening for an ecologist to design and implement wildlife studies throughout Alaska. Deadline to apply: 11/15/2021.
Job Summary: The ideal candidate for this position will have a background in breeding biology of birds and experience with data management, statistical analyses, and preparation of technical reports and publications.
Job Responsibilities:

Design and manage field surveys for wildlife, with an emphasis on tundra-nesting waterfowl and shorebirds

Develop proposals and budgets

Coordinate a team of research biologists and technicians engaged in fieldwork, data management, analysis, and reporting

Lead analyses of wildlife distributions, abundance, habitat associations, behavior, and survival

Lead or direct authorship of reports, publications, and presentations

Develop existing and new client relationships

Participate in safety training and implement ABR’s Safety Policy
Qualifications:

Experience designing and implementing field surveys of nesting birds and expertise in bird identification is required, preferably in Alaska

Applicant must be able to supervise field work involving wading, hiking, and physical labor in remote settings

Travel in helicopters, small fixed-wing aircraft, on snow machines, and in boats may be required

Candidates should have experience in data analysis, preferably using GIS, PostgreSQL, and R
-
Demonstrate excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to work well under variable time constraints and meet deliverable targets and deadlines

Advanced degree in wildlife biology, ecology, zoology, or related fields required with a minimum of 6 years’ experience

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required
Hours: Approximately 35 hours/week on average; occasional field work may involve longer hours and up to 14 days of consecutive work, mostly during the summer months
Wage and Benefits: Depending on experience; eligible for benefits after 3 months of employment
