Job Opening: Alaska Maritime NWR 2021 Summer Seabird Job Opportunities

Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge is currently recruiting Biological Science Technicians (Avian) for the 2021 summer field season. This is a unique opportunity to live and work on wild, remote islands in the Aleutian Islands, Bering Sea, or Gulf of Alaska, and contribute to an internationally-recognized seabird monitoring program spanning more than 40 years.

Technicians will be staffing our seabird monitoring camps of Aiktak, Buldir, Chowiet, St. George, St. Lazaria, or St. Paul islands. Work consists mainly of observing and handling a variety of seabird species to collect data on breeding chronology, reproductive success, population change, adult survival, and food habits. Species being studied varies by location but may include storm-petrels, cormorants, kittiwakes, murres, pigeon guillemots, auklets, and puffins. Crews will live and work in groups of 2-3 individuals at field camps on remote islands, where wet, windy weather and spartan living conditions are the norm.

We will be hiring up to 15 technicians ranging from GS-04 through GS-07. The application period will last from 27 November – 11 December at midnight EST. Each grade level is a separate application; if you would like consideration at multiple grade levels, you will need to apply separately to each.
