Job Opening: Aleutian Tern Survey Coordinator
The Pacific Seabird Group Aleutian Tern Technical Committee (ATTC) is soliciting interest for an Aleutian Tern Survey Coordinator. This coordinator will support the development and implementation of a three-year (2023-2025) Alaska Statewide Aleutian Tern survey. Deadline to apply: ASAP!
Primary duties include:
- Contributing to development of a final statewide survey plan, including developing a realistic and scalable budget for implementing the survey.
- Planning field surveys, including:
- securing, training, and supervising field personnel
- obtaining necessary permits (private land access, etc.)
- arranging travel
- securing pilots, aircrafts, etc.
- Conducting field work as needed
- Drafting annual reports
Qualifications:
- Experience managing budgets
- Supervisory experience (overseeing technicians, volunteers, and planning meetings, etc.)
- Research experience with terns or other seabirds, ideally including aerial survey experience
- Experience with field work and coordinating logistics in Alaska
- Ability to work independently without direct daily supervision and adhere to a timeline
- Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of partners and other stakeholders, including residents of remote/rural communities
- Ability to work with different state and federal agencies on training requirements, aviation safety plans, health and safety (i.e., COVID) plans, personnel policies, etc.
Details:
- The coordinator duties are part-time, starting Fall 2022. We can accept an initial one-year commitment but ideally a candidate would be available to fulfill the role over three years.
- Salary and hiring mechanism (contract, agreement, etc.) will be determined based on selected candidate
