Job Opening: Seabird Biologist (Fl)
The State of Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Research Institute seeks a Biological Scientist to coordinate and conduct research on rooftop nesting shorebirds and seabirds in Florida. Deadline to apply: 3/14/2021.
The successful candidate will work as part of a team to address priority information needs related to the conservation and management of rooftop-nesting shorebirds and seabirds. Priorities include: 1) identify threats to rooftop nesting colonies, 2) test and implement unique conservation strategies to reduce those threats, 3) develop a strategy to determine productivity on rooftops, 4) evaluate protocol and database needs associated with answering key questions at rooftop colonies, 5) understand predator impacts to nesting birds and contribute to the development of predation management strategies. This position will work closely with Shorebird Program staff to accomplish project goals and objectives. Other duties include conducting outreach to building managers and owners and collaborating with partners to locate and monitor new rooftop colonies. For all stated duties, the scientific integrity of data and focus on the Shorebird Program rooftop conservation objectives are to be of foremost consideration. Some overnight and weekend travel is required. The position will be based out of Lakeland or St. Petersburg, Florida. Work will be primarily conducted in Pinellas County.
