Conference Venue

The Pacific Seabird Group is excited to host this year’s conference at Autonomous University of Baja California Sur just outside the city center of La Paz, Mexico. We’re especially pleased to work with the CICESE, COSCYT and the University to provide public talks for the local community and professional development and networking opportunities to students.

Conference Hotel

Hotel Perla, La Paz, Mexico

The conference hotel is Hotel Perla – a traditional Spanish-style hotel located in the heart of historic La Paz, just steps away from the beach.  PSG has reserved a block of rooms at the hotel, with reduced conference rates.  Bookings must be made by 30 October 2018. Take advantage of these rates by booking early! Online and phone reservations are accepted. Note: PSG is not responsible for room selections assigned by the Hotel.

Air Travel to La Paz International Airport (LAP)

La Paz’s General Manuel Márquez De León International Airport (LAP) is 18 km (11 miles) northwest of the La Paz city center and conference hotel. Aeroméxico, Interjet, Volaris, and Viva Aerobus fly from Mexico City and other points within Mexico.

Air Travel to Los Cabos International Airport (SJD)

Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) is 11 km (7 miles) north of San Jose del Cabo city center and 193 km from the conference hotel. Alaska Airlines has direct flights from Los Angeles, Santa Ana, San Diego, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle and Sacramento. Delta has nonstop flights from Los Angeles, Salt Lake City and Seattle. American Airlines has nonstop flights to Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago, Dallas and Charlotte. United Airlines has nonstop flights from Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver, Houston, New York, San Francisco and Washington. AirCanada has nonstop flight from Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto.

Ground Transportation & Parking

Parking at Hotel Perla is free, and valet parking is available. Click here for directions to the Autonomous University of Baja California Sur. Parking information for all the conference hotels is available at check-in.

Rental cars are available at La Paz International Airport, including Budget (phone: +52 612-124-6433 or 122-3107 in town), Avis (phone: +52 612-124-6312 or 122-2651 in town) or Hertz (phone: +52 612-124-6330, or 128-4865 in town).

Taxi service from La Paz International Airport to Malecon (400 pesos/$23 USD, 700 pesos/$39 USD for a van) is available from various companies at the arrivals area in the airport. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the hotel.

Shuttle service is provided by Ecobajatours and runs between La Paz and the San Jose del Cabo Airport and vice versa. The cost is 545 pesos/$31USD. The trip takes 3 hours. The shuttle departs from La Paz Malecon terminal (two blocks from Hotel La Perla) at 7:00AM and 9:00AM and departs from the San Jose Airport at 2:30PM and 5:00PM. Public Transit (from airport) is available but there are no direct trips from the airport. We recommend the use of shuttles or rental cars to travel to La Paz.

Public Transit (in the city) We recommend the use of buses and vans provided by the organizers to travel between the Hotel and the University. If transport is required to travel to nearby beaches, please arrange for a private shuttle at the hotel desk. You may also want to experience the local “transporte colectivo” but it can be complicated as there are no time schedules or maps. Click here for further reading.

Ride On-demand Services provided by companies such as Uber and Lyft are not available.

PSG Ride Share is set up for you to request a ride, or post that you can offer a ride!  Please use this link to coordinate ride sharing from La Paz International Airport to one of the conference hotels and/or for your return.

Visitors to Mexico

Please ensure that you consult the Secretary of Foreign Relations website for information about visas for non-Mexican citizens entering Mexico for the conference. If you need a letter to obtain a visa, please contact the Local Chair as soon as possible, and include any specific requirements for the invitation letter.  For visitor and tourism information about Mexico include currency, language, customs, and other useful information, visit Mexico tourism website.
