The Pacific Seabird Group is excited about this year’s conference venue: the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center in downtown Tacoma, WA. Located in Tacoma’s downtown core, the convention center is a modern building, ideally designed and situated for a scientific meeting like the PSG meeting.

The conference hotel is Hotel Murano – a beautiful boutique hotel adjacent to the Tacoma Convention Center. The hotel is steps from the city’s best museums and restaurants.

The PSG room block is full!  Rooms are still available at the Hotel Murano, 1320 Broadway Plaza, Tacoma WA 98402. On-line and phone reservations are accepted.  Note: PSG is not responsible for room selection assigned by the Hotel.

Air Travel to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport

Multiple major air carriers service Tacoma at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac or SEA), conveniently located only 22 miles (35 km) north of the conference center and hotel.   Please make sure you have all appropriate documentation and visas if you are arriving from outside the United States.  See below for information on Visitors to the United States.

Surface Travel to Tacoma or Seattle

Tacoma can be reached by Amtrak Cascades trains, with train service from Vancouver British Columbia, Canada to Eugene Oregon.  Greyhound Bus also has service to the Tacoma Amtrak station. From Victoria, British Columbia, the Victoria Clipper has a daily winter schedule to Seattle, arriving at the ferry terminal on Alaskan Way, Pier 69.  From the Seattle waterfront, take a taxi or Sound Transit to King Street Station or the downtown core and hop on Public Transit to Tacoma (see below).

The Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center and Hotel Murano are located 22 miles from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. There are multiple options available to get to the hotel.  It takes about 30 minutes by car to travel from Sea-Tac Airport to the Hotel however traffic can be heavy southbound on I-5 and easily add 15 to 30 minutes – please plan accordingly. Rental cars are available at Sea-Tac. All rental car companies operate at a separate rental car facility with a dedicated shuttle service 24 hours a day.  Two passenger pick up areas for the shuttle are located outside baggage claim at the north and south ends of the main terminal. Taxis are available at Sea-Tac Airport and the taxi stand is on the 3rd floor of the parking garage. Sedans and 8-10 passenger vans are available. Information and phone number for taxis can be found here.

Public Transit from Sea-Tac Airport to Tacoma is very convenient (about 30 mins).  From the airport, use Sound Transit route # 574. Pick up the bus at the Sea-Tac Station Bay 2, take the #574 going in the “Tacoma-Lakewood” direction.  Get off at the “Tacoma Dome” station and transfer to the Tacoma Light Rail Link.  Take the Light Rail Link towards downtown Tacoma and get off at the “Convention Center” station. The Light Rail Link trains run every 24 minutes and service runs from 05:00 AM to 01:00 AM.  Bus Fare: $3.75 and Tacoma Light Rail Link: free

Public Transit from downtown Seattle is convenient also, by bus or commuter train. Take route #590 or route #594 to the “Tacoma Dome” station.  Buses run every 10 min during peak hours and every 15-30 min outside peak hours; use the Sound Transit Trip Planner to see the schedule. Or, from the King Street Train Station, hop on the Sounder Train, a commuter train that runs daily. Get off the train at “Tacoma Dome” station.  See directions above from the “Tacoma Dome” to the Convention Center via Tacoma Light Rail Link. NOTE: From 17-22 Feb, the Sounder Train service is disrupted to Tacoma due to construction on the Tacoma Trestle.  Please see this notice for the Special Shuttle Service that will be provided on those dates.

Ride On-demand options are available from Sea-Tac and in Tacoma.  Uber, Lyft and Wingz companies service Sea-Tac Airport, and have pick-up and drop-off locations approved by the airport authority.  Please consult the Lyft, Uber and Wingz Sea-Tac Airport Guide for more information on these locations.

Ride Share is set up for you to request a ride, or post that you can offer a ride!  Please use the link that was sent to all registrants to coordinate ride sharing from Seattle-Tacoma Airport to Hotel Murano and/or return.  Please contact the local committee if you need the link.

 

Visitors to the United States

Please ensure that you consult the U.S. Department of State – Bureau of Consular Affairs website for information about visas for non-US citizens entering the United States for the conference.
